Why Southwest Minnesota State University

  • Campus: Students can join a friendly community welcoming students from over 25 countries around the world. Get a world class education and the attention they need to succeed at a medium-size public University. With its affordable costs in tuition and living expenses, it’s no wonder SMSU is ranked Top 7th in the U.S. as most affordable for international students. International students pay the same tuition price as U.S. students. Finally, SMSU is proud to be ranked the #1 Safest Campus in the state of Minnesota.
  • Facilities: The Southwest Minnesota State University campus is on a 215 acre site located in a northeast quadrant of the City of Marshall, Mn. Included on the grounds are a number of athletic facilities and the ADM Environmental Learning Area. The campus was master planned and is comprised of 26 buildings – 14 academic buildings, 12 revenue funded facilities and one Child Care Center. Square footage of all facilities is approx 1.2 million. All academic buildings, the Student Center and the Conference Center are connected by enclosed above and below grade links or tunnels (72% of campus sq. footage is interconnected). The architectural design of the academic buildings is almost barrier free to accommodate students with disabilities.
  • Culture/Location: Marshall is just the right-sized environment for college students. Enjoy friendly support, great dining, and abundant entertainment in a community voted one of America’s best small towns. Volunteering, job-shadowing, and internship opportunities abound with local employers helping you get to know Marshall and its residents. What to do? Check out the city, county, and state parks, bike paths, archery park, clay target range, golf courses, the ice rinks at Red Baron Arena, and much more!
  • A Wise Investment: With just a few exceptions, nearly everyone at SMSU qualities for in-state, public-school tuition, so no matter whether students are from out of state or even another country, they’re winners when it comes to the cost of their college education. Additional scholarship opportunities help lower the price even further. It’s true that college is an investment, but it doesn’t have to be an expensive one at SMSU.
