Ontario is the most popular province for postsecondary education in Canada and it鈥檚 not hard to see why.聽 at Ontario colleges and universities, many of whom are from different countries. One of the most common questions we get is which universities in Ontario are available through the聽.

Algoma University

Algoma University鈥檚聽main campus is located in Sault Ste. Marie,聽. As an undergraduate-only institution, Algoma is one of Ontario鈥檚 smallest universities. However, Algoma鈥檚 smaller size has allowed it to focus on increased interaction between students and faculty.

Brescia University College Logo

Brescia University College

Brescia聽is a unique school, in that it鈥檚 Canada鈥檚 only all-women university. An affiliate of nearby聽, Brescia enjoys all the resources offered by Ontario鈥檚 third-largest university but with a 14:1 student/faculty ratio for increased interaction and discussion. Although Brescia is a Catholic institution, it welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds. In fact, over 11% of its student population are international students!

Brock University Logo

Brock University

聽is located in St. Catharines, Ontario, and is the only Canadian university in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The university had approximately 19,000 students in 2018 and boasts one of Canada鈥檚 most successful co-op programs.

Brock enjoys a 98 per cent work-term placement rate and more than 95 per cent of co-op grads find work with a previous employer. Brock is also the only university in Canada to offer an undergraduate degree in聽Public Health.

King鈥檚 University College

Like Brescia,聽聽is an affiliated school of Western University. Located in London, Ontario, King鈥檚 offers students 鈥淭he Best of Both Worlds鈥 鈥 small classes led by outstanding faculty.

Students can choose from degree programs in the arts, social sciences, management and social work. Every student who attends King鈥檚 University College has access to all of Western鈥檚 facilities and services, and also graduate with a Western degree.

Lakehead University

聽is located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and is regarded as one of Canada鈥檚 top research universities. It also routinely ranks in the top 10 for education among Canadian universities. Lakehead offers students a picturesque setting that doesn鈥檛 sacrifice access to top programs.

The university鈥檚 Faculty of Law and School of Medicine are highly respected, and it has the only internationally accredited (AACSB) business school in northern Ontario. If Thunder Bay is too far, students can also choose Lakehead鈥檚 Orillia campus, which boasts Canada鈥檚 first聽聽compliant academic building.

Laurentian University

Home of the聽聽east campus,聽聽is a midsize institution located in Sudbury, Ontario. Laurentian specializes in niche programs inspired by its northern location, including stressed watershed systems, mining, engineering, and environmental remediation.

As a bilingual university, Laurentian is a great place for international students to nurture their language skills, as more than 40 programs are offered in both English and French.

Ontario Tech University

Founded in 2002,聽 is one of the newest universities in Ontario. Ontario Tech has two campuses in the city of Oshawa and was founded on the idea of being a 鈥淭echnology-Enriched Learning Environment鈥. Ontario Tech has more than 70 specialized research laboratories and facilities. These include the聽, which has one of the world鈥檚 largest climatic wind tunnels.

Queen鈥檚 University

Queen鈥檚 University is located in the port city of Kingston, and is home to over 25,000 students, faculty, researchers, and artists. University of Guelph

聽ranks high among international students for its research excellence and program diversity. Guelph specializes in the physical and biological sciences, arts, business, and social sciences.

University of Waterloo

(UW) is one of Canada’s top research universities. At UW, you鈥檒l find world-class facilities in science, engineering, and many other disciplines. It’s also well-known for its extensive co-op program ( by Maclean’s magazine) which spans faculties and gives students great work-integrated learning experience.

UW ranks in the top 10 for Canadian universities and is recognized internationally for its education quality. In fact, 22% of its undergrads and 40% of graduate students in 2019 were international students.

University of Windsor

is located in Canada鈥檚 southernmost city, across the Canadian-American border from the city of Detroit. Thanks to its proximity to the United States, the University of Windsor offers unique programs in partnership with American schools.

Over 16,000 students from 100 countries are enrolled in Windsor鈥檚 professional schools, which include Law, Business, Engineering, and Nursing.

Western University

A large public research university located in London, Ontario,聽聽is a respected member of Canada鈥檚聽. With more than 400 academic programs, Western is known for its education quality and attracts many international students every year.

Wilfrid Laurier University

Located in Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University聽(WLU) is one of Canada鈥檚聽聽for overall student satisfaction.

WLU is a mid-sized university known for business and music programs, but its Arts, Science, Education, and Graduate Studies programs are also well-respected. Laurier鈥檚 other major campus is located in Brantford, Ontario.

York University 鈥 School of Continuing Studies

specializes in postgraduate programs. The school offers always evolving post-graduate certificates in areas including Accounting Business Administration, and Public Relations.

It’s also home to the York University English Language Institute. York’s ELI is one of the largest language training centres in Canada! Their programs are designed to help students improve their English language skills, while allowing them to apply for York University鈥檚 undergrad programs without聽taking the IELTS exam.
